If you are a musician and you would like to work out a piece of music from a recording, then you need to take a look at the Transcribe! Windows application, a specialized media player optimized for transcription. If you do a lot of speech transcription, you also need to take a look at the Transcribe! application, as it provides support for foot pedals and comes with superior slow-down sound quality.

Should you decide to put Transcribe! to the test, the first thing you need to do is get a 2.1Mb installation file off the web and onto your computer. At such a lightweight size, the download will complete in a blink. Then you must run the file and follow the instructions presented by a setup wizard. You will get to select the installation directory and choose if you want a desktop shortcut. Transcribe! provides support for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Windows 7; it also provides support for Mac and Linux.

A quite good looking interface will show up when you launch Transcribe! The buttons for the main functions are at the top, a scrollable waveform of a sound file is displayed in the middle, and buttons for playing the sound file, adjusting the volume and speed of the sound file are available at the bottom. To open a sound file, you can drag and drop it onto Transcribe!’s interface, you can use “Open file” button, or the Ctrl + O keyboard shortcut. If you have any problems understanding how the application works, check out the detailed and comprehensive Help file.

As mentioned above, Transcribe! is meant to be used by musicians who want to work out a piece of music in order to write it or play it themselves. That is why the application can slow down music without changing the pitch, can analyze chords and display the notes, lets you add markers and annotations, and displays a keyboard that you can click to play reference notes. It basically has all the bits and pieces you need to easily transcribe music.

You have a total of 31 days to use Transcribe! for free and determine if the functionality it has to offer is suited for you. Get a license to keep using the application after the trial period ends.

With its user friendly interface and numerous powerful features, Transcribe! makes it very easy to transcribe music.
